Traian Vasai, 1929-2013
Traian Vasai was a notable Canadian painter of Romanian origin living in Montreal, Quebec. He arrived in Canada in 1992 as refugee. He is the father of American Romanian artists Amalia Pop, Rozalinda Vasai & grandfather to American Romanian artist Antonio Luciano Pop.
He graduated in 1956 the ”Institute of Fine Arts Nicolae Grigorescu” where he studied with: J. Al. Steriadi, Samuel Mutzner, Vasile Kazar.
Traian Vasai was representing Romania at Venice Biennale in 1960 in a group exhibition including: Paintings by George Petrașcu.
