Albin Stănescu (b.1938)

Albin Stănescu is a Romanian artist who has worked in several artistic occupations. He was a drawing teacher, a historical painter for the army’s art studios and a hyper-realistic children’s book artist. Born in Dâmboviţa, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest between 1959 and 1964. He has published his comic stories since 1968 in magazines like Luminiţa, Cutezătorii, Arici Pogonici et plus tard, Şoimii Patriei and Universul Copiilor. He has worked on several genres, including science fiction, detective and adventure.

But he stood out for the well-documented historical comics he made with Dinu C. Giurescu, such as ‘Din Zori’. His comics have covered most major events in Romanian history, from the people’s resistance to the Persians led by Darius in 514 BC to the armed insurrection against the Germans in 1944. Additionally, he is the author of the comic series ‘The True Descendant of Tarzan’. He did the artwork for the comic ‘Miu-al-Florilor’, written by Alexandru Mitru and Aurel Tita, in Cutezatorii magazine in 1973.
